Twinkie, this one's for you!

Tonight, we have plans with a friend to eat pizza and play games.  YEAH!  It is our/my responsibility to bring the dessert and drinks.  Instead of bringing the typical ice cream or store bought whatever, I looked up a recipe for whoopee pies.  I've always wanted to try them.

The recipe I found was so simple:

1 box of cake mix
1/3 cup water
3 tbsp oil
2 eggs

Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350.  Cool and assemble.

I was supposed to drop the batter onto a cookie sheet with a teaspoon but I thought that was too small.  Silly me, I used a serving spoon and the pies were HUGE!!!!!!!!  There was no way I was going to serve those.  SO...I used a cookie cutter to cut the pies into shapes after they cooled.  Then, I added chocolate icing between whoopee layersg and they turned out so cute!

I showed my pies to Michael and...

I think he liked them.  SUCCESS!!!

  1. HOORAY!!! I love your idea to cut them in shapes AFTER they baked... I did it once before and it didn't go so well. Oh well, even good bakers have bad days.

  2. Thank you! It was a cute and successful idea but it wasted quite a bit of cake. I guess I should have made some cake balls with the left over scraps. Oopsy.
