My Birthday Cake!!

I will be turning 30 soon and my family celebrated with me yesterday.  We ate at my favorite Tex Mex restaurant and went back to my grandfather's house for cake and games.  It took a while for me to decide what cake I wanted and the bakery I work for was more than happy to make it for me.

The dots had to be the most difficult part.  Keeping them all in a straight line...no way!  They thanked me for the challenge but most likely won't be puting this on in the "book" for customers to order.  Thanks, guys, for the delicious and beautiful cake!

Butterfly Butterfly...Oh So Pretty

My hubby gave me the book "Cookie Swap" by Julia M. Usher as an anniversary gift.

Although I do mostly cakes, I would love to break into the cookie decorating scene as well.  Today was my first attempt.  I made 3 dozen butterfly cookies and the royal icing to decorate them with.  I think they turned out rather well.

Not exactly like the book but, not too shabby.  I now fully understand WHY little decorated cookies cost $3-$5 a piece!  All the different steps make a simple little cookie take FOREVER!!!  Mix the dough, roll it out, cut out shapes, bake, cool, mix icing, color icing, outline each and every single cookie.  Then, fill the outline, add the accents, do the details for every single cookie.

WOW!  Kudos to all you cookie designers.  You are worth every penny!

Local Flare

My friend's mom asked for a cake for her co-worker's retirement.

Then, I was able to use the same colors for another birthday cake.

New Job

Check out what I've been doing at a local bakery!  Only part time but learning a lot!
