LVN Cupcakes

My cousin just finished his training for his LVN certification!  So proud of him.  This is definitely not something I could do.  (Too squeamish)  I'd rather stick to decorating cakes.

Anyway, his wife asked me to make some cupcakes for his graduation party.  This is the picture she showed me.

She said she liked the gloves, stethoscope, pill bottle, and red cross.  I'm glad she didn't want the bandaids...not so sure that would really tempt the tastebuds.

Here's what I was able to come up with...

I even got creative and made little cupcake covers.

Gender Revealing Shower

As we all know, I am expecting our second kiddo in January.  I hit the 20 week mark at the end of August and decided to throw a party where our family and friends could be present when we find out the sex of the baby.  The doctor wrote down the sex of baby and sealed it in an envelope.  I was a good girl and did not peek before I dropped said envelope with my baker.  He then baked the cake and cupcakes you see below.

Granted, it was my design but I couldn't very well make my OWN cake; that would ruin the surprise.

Inside, the cake was dyed either Pink or Blue and I had all the guests dress according to what they thought baby would be.

(The cupcakes were NOT dyed, which made for less temptation for peeking.)

We played games such as "Dirty Diaper Diving" where you had to guess the type of candy bar melted in the diaper.
(Note to self, do NOT use LUVS or HUGGIES...they melt.  Pampers or Target brand are okay.)

We also played a game called "Guess Mommy's Girth" where everyone had to break off the amount of toilet paper they thought would go all the way around my belly.  As you can see here, he guessed wrong.  I'm not that big...YET.

After everything was said and done, my hubby and I cut the cake to reveal a VERY pink inside.  So, we can now proudly say that we are expecting another GIRL!!!  WOO HOO!!!
(Poor Daddy is going to be sooooo out numbered.)

SpongeBob & Cupcakes

This was great practice for my daughter's next birthday.  She LOVES "BobBob".

This cake was for a little boy and I added Gary, Partick, and Squidward on the sides.

I hope he liked it.

His little sister was celebrating her birthday on the same day with a cupcake theme.

This was her smash cake.  I have never iced a cupcake cake and, let me tell you, it was a lot HARDER than I expected!  Who knew?

Fun with Fondant!

My friend's daughter had her 4th birthday as a Tickerbell party.  I had so much fun decorating the cake!

Happy Birthday Izzy!

Another friend's daughter wanted "All About Me" Cupcakes.  This 9 year old decided that these cupcakes covered all of her favorite things.  I liked this idea and I'm thinking it should become a new trend.

Tennis, Cartwheels, and Aggies...

Piano, Books, and Soccer!

Ewwwwww!

Karin Slaughter, a suspense writer, teamed up with Whimsical Bakehouse to put on a cupcake contest.

I didn't win.  :-(

but it was a lot of fun to make this gross cupcake!

I promise, it is all just sugar.

Happy Mother's Day

Michael's Tea Party was a success.  We used my grandmother's china tea cups and I made cupcakes.

Roses Are Red

Recently, I have been browsing the web in search of inspiration.  While perusing, something caught my eye and intrigued my creative soul.  I saw Sandra Lee making a cupcake bouquet!

How cute!!!  What a great gift idea!!  As soon as I perfect this method, you will see many more cupcake bouquets at holiday get-togethers.  For my preparations, I started with the actual cupcake flower, itself.  Instead of just a swirl, I tried to make an actual icing rose.

I just love this picture!  I need to work on other types of flowers before I can create a bouquet.  My goal will be to have a completed bouquet for Mother's Day.

Happy Birthday Uncle Marine!

The other family some family members dropped by and asked me to make some cupcakes for my uncle's birthday.  He is turning 76, likes chocolate, and spent a lot of time in the Marines.  24 chocolate cupcakes later, I was armed with the Marine red and gold to cut out, dry and pipe these fondant circles.  I piped some detail on each round and let THAT dry.  When they were completely dried, I painted the details with gold shimmer dust mixed with vodka to make a kind of paste.

Don't get too excited!
The vodka evaporates faster than water so as not to make the icing soggy
and leaves no aftertaste.

ANYWAY...Painting the gold was difficult b/c you can't simply wipe off any mistakes.  It gets absorbed into the fondant as soon as your paint brush makes contact.  I really did enjoy trying out the new technique and look forward to doing it again.

Easter Cupcakes

Mike's office is holding a bake sale.  They know how I love to bake and asked if I would like to add something to the sale.  Granted, the sale was the next day.  What could I whip up in one evening/  I just happened to have a cake mix and some already mixed icing from my failed chocolate cake.

So, I made cupcakes.  What is easier than cupcakes?  I also got to try out my grass tip.

Add to that, my left over fondant and new flower cookie cutter set and...

Viola!

Poinsettias

My grandmother, Mama Peggy, has always loved poinsettias.  These beautiful flowers, although poisonous, are the symbol of yuletide cheer.

So, when Emily's daycare decided to have her Christmas party, I thought i would make cupcakes with poinsettias on them for the grown-ups.

For the kiddos, I made smaller cupcakelettes with Christmas trees on them.

Baby Cakes

My daughter LOVED her birthday party and the highlight was her birthday cake.  I prepared 4 dozen cupcakes for family and friends and then a little ducky smash cake just for her.  It was a fantastic mess and made for adorable pictures for the memory books.

Just Cupcakes

Today, cupcakes come in all different shapes and sizes.
