The great mystery of how to form believable human forms out of fondant has escaped me for years. But, being in one of those adventurous moods, I have come up with a design for a contest cake that with require SEVERAL human forms. Thus, my research has commenced.
During my search, I stumbled across a few examples that I found helpful. One such example is from

And I was able to do his cake. This now makes for my second wedding cake and I busted my butt working on it. My poor tried his best to avoid the kitchen at all costs b/c I commandeered every inch of counter space we have. But, it was wonderful and everyone loved it, especially my Papaw and his new bride.

(It is a lot harder than I thought it would be and I knew it would be difficult. I wasn't blowing it off or thinking other mothers were just cry babies. I was well aware that it would not be a cake walk but dad-gum!) Thankfully, things have finally started to even out a bit. (YEAH!)

The original recipe was for Caramel Pretzel Bites from The Busty Baker but I couldn't find the Pretzel Nuggets.
Instead, I used Pretzel Sticks and I think it might have proved a little easier with the dipping. It took me exactly 1 hour to finish 50 sticks...start to finish.

Last night, I made the most delicious Chicken Parmesan I have ever tasted! It was crispy but still moist and the mozzarella on top had just the right amount of stretch to make it fun. Mmmmm...my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Personally, a cake in the shape of a cross would be more appropriate but a bunny cake is much more fun to decorate. There are plenty of ways to decorate a bunny cake ranging from super easy to really involved.

The little one is almost 2 months now and is "sort of" sleeping through the night. Sounds good except that she begins stirring around 4:00 in the morning. I get up to feed her but she's asleep again before you get to the crib. So proud of him. This is definitely not something I could do. (Too squeamish) I'd rather stick to decorating cakes.
Anyway, his wife asked me to make some cupcakes for his graduation party. This is the picture she showed me.

It's funny to try decorating while pregnant. My belly got in the way!
In the midst of decorating this lego cake, I noticed a glob of green icing on my apron. Then, as I am piping the borders, I notice a patch of icing was missing on the corner of the cake. I had some retouching to do but it Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-64269193959626999362011-10-27T20:45:00.000-05:002011-10-27T20:45:10.962-05:00Fondant SculptingIhad a great time sculpting fondant into little figures at the bakery the other day. I went last year and placed 3rd in my division, which was Semi-Professional Holiday Cakes. I don't "want" to be a semi professional b/c I've only been doing this for a little over 2 years. But since I have taught a cake class and have worked as a decorator in a bakery, I have no other choice.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-91754367920204644592011-09-08T12:41:00.000-05:002011-09-08T12:41:17.151-05:00Gender Revealing ShowerAs we all know, I am expecting our second kiddo in January. I hit the 20 week mark at the end of August and decided to throw a party where our family and friends could be present when we find out the sex of the baby. The doctor wrote down the sex of baby and sealed it in an envelope. I was a good girl and did not peek before I dropped said envelope with my baker. He then Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-85686948779568710142011-08-18T23:18:00.000-05:002011-08-18T23:18:54.512-05:00My Confectionery SabbaticalI would like to apologize for my absence. Finding out that I am pregnant with our second kiddo has sent me on a confectionery sabbatical.
Due to the fact that I no longer work at the bakery nor do I teach the cake classes, I have had nothing to actually post for you. First trimester symptoms and having to stay home with my 2 year old for the summer has put my cake career on hold. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-82077398761120576932011-05-19T23:20:00.000-05:002011-05-19T23:20:39.243-05:00Another Day, Another DollarThis was originally supposed to be a 2 tiered cake but the price changed their minds. Instead of a zebra tier and a polka dot tier, I think their design collaboration was a success.
I am so glad to be able to practice Spongebob at the bakery! My daughter wants a Spongebob birthday party. My design will be Spongbob sitting up in actual 3D and a Crabby Patty for her smash cake. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-17737254389854165262011-05-19T23:13:00.001-05:002011-05-19T23:22:35.867-05:00My Latest and GreatestMy cousin needed a cake for her grandmother and sent me a picture of what she wanted. The cake is pretty much a duplicate except for the colors used and the basket weave. I also added a fondant ribbon and bow since buttercream bows are NOT my forte.
Aside from the monotony of doing so many zebra cakes at the bakery, I do love it when the order calls for zebra print Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-26066871736572532192011-04-08T23:05:00.000-05:002011-04-08T22:47:13.331-05:00Raffle!!My Rainbow Surprise sold for $400 at the auction!

I highly recommend parusing her interview on The Sweet Adventures of Sugar Belle to find some interesting hints and tips on cookie decorating. Just to give you an idea of some of her work...
She has so much variety in each batch of cookies! I am simple amazed.

Not my best work, but not that bad, either. She was VERY difficult and took WAY longer than I planned. Of course the eyes and mouth were the hardest pieces to make. All the rest was rather easy. I just basically free-handed everything with an exacto knife.
Then, I had to copy all the Mario scenes from Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4551773296064248709.post-73927595815091727992011-03-17T18:47:00.000-05:002011-03-17T18:47:09.468-05:00Texas Pride!
