It's DONE!!!!!

The contest cake is done!!!!!!  Here was the process.

I molded both birds and piped every single feather!!!

My signature cushioned lattice.

Gumpaste halo I saw in a magazine.

I had to make some mistletoe to fill in the poinsettias.

I laminated some shiny poster board for my base and already had the ribbon.

These things were DIFFICULT!!!!  I've practiced before but never with a #1 tip!!!!

I made the holly and my darling hubby made the berries.

I wanted to use roses and the pine needles I made but had to change plans.

And here it is...Taaaa Daaaa!!!!

Wish me LUCK!!  I'll post more when we get back from the contest.

I wanted to paint gold detail on the swirls but I ran out of time.
No sense in stressing myself out when my cake already looks fine as it is.

Contest Cake: Part 1

Well, I have 6 days left to complete my contest entry.  I never thought it would be easy but, it is DEFINITELY taking me longer than anticipated.  Wish me luck and pray that I finish in time!!

Take a look at what I've got so far...

Painted spaghetti for my pine needles.

Holly leaves...duh.

Gumpaste halo to hold my poinsettias, berries, and doves.

Poinsettias before...

Poinsettias after.

Doves: Part 1

It's coming along nicely but still have a long way to go.

Raspberry Ripple

From a really good cake book I got for my birthday.

I added blue berries and nixed the roses.  Plus, I was only serving 11 people.

Scroll Work

I LOVE these beautiful cakes!!

And they all have beautifully detailed scroll work!

One day, I, too, will be able to create a brilliant delicacy like this.

And here is my first step toward my goal...

I was so excited!!  I did my very 1st scroll work cake!

Zebra and Bows

If you will take note, it seems like the zebra cakes and the cakes with bows seem to be VERY popular!

Oopsy...

Tiffany Blue

Floral & Feminine

** A little note:  Notice that both cakes say "Carolina".  I had already boxed the Tiffany Blue cake when I realized the mistake!!  I had to un-box it, redo the name, and re-box it.  So, now you should feel better that everyone makes mistakes.
