My Confectionery Sabbatical

I would like to apologize for my absence.  Finding out that I am pregnant with our second kiddo has sent me on a confectionery sabbatical.

Due to the fact that I no longer work at the bakery nor do I teach the cake classes, I have had nothing to actually post for you.  First trimester symptoms and having to stay home with my 2 year old for the summer has put my cake career on hold.  That's right, I have not done another cake since my last post in May!!!!!  It kind of shocks me b/c cake was basically my life for the past year.

Hopefully, I will be able to get back into the swing of things, soon.  I have two AWESOME events coming up.  The first will be the Baby Gender Revealing that we will have in September.  That is a kind of "shower" where everyone finds out what you're having together.  You can find out more HERE.  And I will be using the yellow and black decor with a bumble bee theme as well.

The second event will be the OSSAS!  I am going to enter a Halloween cake this year with lots of sculpting.  Wish me luck...never really sculpted before.  (Why do I always try out new techniques for a contest?  One of these days I'll learn.)

Another Day, Another Dollar

This was originally supposed to be a 2 tiered cake but the price changed their minds.  Instead of a zebra tier and a polka dot tier, I think their design collaboration was a success.

I am so glad to be able to practice Spongebob at the bakery!  My daughter wants a Spongebob birthday party.  My design will be Spongbob sitting up in actual 3D and a Crabby Patty for her smash cake.  It will be a big challenge but I think I am ready for it.  The hardest part would be deciding how to keep Songebob from sagging.  My theory will be to use a Styrofoam dummy for the bottom half and a pound cake for the top.  We'll see what happens.

For a graduation/anniversary party, a family asked for an 80's themed cake since that is the only thing everyone could agree on.  It was lots of fun researching the terms and the styles...kind of like reliving my youth.
