My cousin needed a cake for her grandmother and sent me a picture of what she wanted.  The cake is pretty much a duplicate except for the colors used and the basket weave.  I also added a fondant ribbon and bow since buttercream bows are NOT my forte. This is my attempt at copying Tinkerbell onto a cake in fondant.  Not my best work, but not that bad, either.  She was VERY difficult and took WAY longer than I planned.  Of course the eyes and mouth were the hardest pieces to make.  All the rest was rather easy.  I just basically free-handed everything with an exacto knife. This is the hardest thing I have EVER tried on a cake.  I think my biggest problem was the size of my tip.  You can practice with a #1 tip but you really need a #.5 or a #0.  But she explains this technique so clearly!  I don't think you could get a simpler explanation.

The contest cake is done!!!!!!  Here was the process. I molded both birds and piped every single feather!!! My signature cushioned lattice. Gumpaste halo I saw in a magazine. I had to make some mistletoe to fill in the poinsettias. I laminated some shiny poster board for my base and already had the ribbon. These things were DIFFICULT!!!!  I've practiced before but never with a #1 tip!!

Made a cake for a baby's first birthday.  I based the cake on a picture I found online.  I will be adding bows and bananas tomorrow. And the smash cake was my favorite part!

I will be attending and competing in the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show and I have to come up with a design that will WOW the judges.  This past February, I won 1st place in my division at the Austin show because I used a technique called the "Lambeth" method.  It's a really interesting method of decorating with royal icing.  Basically, you layer the royal icing on top of itself at least 5 times or more

That's exactly what I was doing.  I just got in the kitchen and felt like decorating some cake. It's just buttercream but it worked well for my first time trying this technique. I pulled out my "Martha Stewart Wedding Cakes" book for inspiration. I did this one in my cake class. It's almost like doodlingon your homework when you're bored.Fun.  Simple.  PrettyCan't get much better than that!

I will be turning 30 soon and my family celebrated with me yesterday.  We ate at my favorite Tex Mex restaurant and went back to my grandfather's house for cake and games.  It took a while for me to decide what cake I wanted and the bakery I work for was more than happy to make it for me. My hubby gave me the book "Cookie Swap" by Julia M. Usher as an anniversary gift. Although I do mostly cakes, I would love to break into the cookie decorating scene as well.  Today was my first attempt.  I made 3 dozen butterfly cookies and the royal icing to decorate them with.  I think they turned out rather well. I made my very first topsy turvy cake this week.  I got online and searched for tutorials.  It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would have been.  I also made the clock and the teapot and mouse from gumpaste.  Let's hope it holds up in this heat!

Recently, I have been browsing the web in search of inspiration.  While perusing, something caught my eye and intrigued my creative soul.  I saw Sandra Lee making a cupcake bouquet! When the church decided to deliver food to the Mosaic Center, I thought this would be a good time to try this rainbow cake I saw online.  And I did! I made the 6 different layers:  Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple.  AND, I even made the marshmallow fondant it is covered in. Guess what!?  My cake got 1st place in my division!! So, I just got over the flu plus a throat infection.  Now,  I have been diagnosed with CSR, Central Serous Retinopathy - aka fluid build up between the layers of the retina.  This means that I have a blind spot right smack dab in the middle of my line of vision in my right eye.  YIKES!  Not that big of a deal as long as I don't try to read for very long or drive at night.  Will hopefully go away

My grandmother, Mama Peggy, has always loved poinsettias.  These beautiful flowers, although poisonous, are the symbol of yuletide cheer. So, when Emily's daycare decided to have her Christmas party, I thought i would make cupcakes with poinsettias on them for the grown-ups. My daughter LOVED her birthday party and the highlight was her birthday cake.  I prepared 4 dozen cupcakes for family and friends and then a little ducky smash cake just for her.  It was a fantastic mess and made for adorable pictures for the memory books.

My daughter was baptized in the Catholic church at the age of 4 months.  We had the whole family down to witness and celebrate.  For dessert, I made this cake and was able to really perfect my roses.
